A Pretty Precious Resource

What I learned playing Pokemon

As I attempt to pull out my bike from my bag in a place where biking ain't allowed, I stumble across a moment of self reflection as the video game prohibits my desired action. If there's one thing I learned in Pokemon, it's that there's a right time and place for everything.

There is a time for intentional attention divertion and a time for the mind to unwind.
A time for planning and contemplation, a time for action and execution.

A time for work and career, a time for family and relationships.
A time to be a man for others, a time to do what's best for one's self.

A time to keep moving forward, a time to pause and recalibrate direction.
A time for hustle and grind, a time for rest and relaxation.

A time to allow emotions to pass, a time to let go.
A time to regret not planting a tree 20 years ago, a time to plant a tree now.

A time for living, relishing, cherishing, and painting the town red, a time for grieving, mourning, and gathering strength for the next sunrise. A time for going about your day, a time for meditation, looking inwards, switching between focusing on the breath and letting the mind naturally do it's thing to eventually realize you're an observer of your thoughts and are capable of directing the monkey mind.

A time for nostalgia and throwing it back, a time for visualizations and hyping up and being psyched about the potentially better future, living with the belief that the best is yet to come. A time for checking out the main content of an article, a time for smoothly being exposed to its sponsor Sparrow Sports, your trusted source of reliable gym equipment allowing you to achieve your fitness dreams within the safety and comfort of your own home.

Especially during these times, it's quite essential to be a bit stronger than we were yesterday. From the elasticity of the skin to the structure of the bones, the human body evolved and designed itself to be used for activity. Partaking in activites that make our heart rate speed up makes us and our cells (the millions of particles that compose our physical essence) feel better as we get more oxygen and perform in a more optimal manner.

There's a lot of things we can do with our limited and most precious resource. It is our responsibility to use it wisely. Taking a second to pause and ask oneself what time it is is essential so that we aren't just running on past programming, glued to our phones or imprisoned in our past given that our subconscious does a lot of background processes in the spirit of efficiency (not effectiveness).

Perhaps a good starting point is showing love and appreciation to the monkeys on this floating rock in space, including our own self.
