Creatures of Environment
Why you should watch or listen to Hamilton
In the world of computer science, there exists a principle called GIGO. It stands for "Garbage In, Garbage Out". What it means is that the computer operates on strict logic and it only processes what you give it, and if you give it bad data, you can't really expect the output to be good. For example, if a user types a name in the mobile number field, the user ought to not expect to receive an OTP.
It's a story for another time but this concept actually emphasizes the importance of data validation and sanitation and error handling so that the system can make the border around the input field red and pop up a message saying "Hey, this is invalid" so that the user can right the wrong.
Similar to how computers depend on good input, human beings are creatures of environment and we actually also depend on the things we interact with in order to produce good results. Subconsciously, we become the people we interact with on a daily basis. We think like the books we read. At least for the most part, we act in accordance to the ambiance our current location and even the vibe of what we're wearing.
That is why when you're trying to lose weight, don't refrain from eating doughnuts after buying them. Don't buy them at all given that willpower is a finite resource and it takes energy to resist and tell your mind "no" because soon enough most likely thy will power is gonna give out and you're gonna give in and take a step back towards your goal. Nature operates on the path of least resistance and it takes effort to divert it. One of the kids who passed the dessert test for children executed a strategy called "look at another direction".
Just a context, a friend (thank you Georgie) introduced me to Hamilton 2 years ago and I liked it a lot but I've only really been listening to the first 10 songs (out of 46). It was only a couple of weeks ago that I got to watch the full musical (since it's already legally digitally out) and here I am attempting to reverberate the very much favorable vibrations brought about by it.
In this essay, I will lay down my points on why you should watch the musical and let it be assimilated in the palace of your own mind.
It's inspiring. It's a story of how a person coming from humble beginnings strived to be great and make an impact. His drive, hunger, and inner fire to make the most out of his life, dig deep, and push through the grind to fulfill his aspirations were truly remarkable. Listening to this, it made sense to me that that attitude is the way to go about life. It made me feel that I wanna live and just exist, thrive and not just survive.
It's educational. It opens your mind given that the musical shows two sides of conflicts. It makes you think. It encourages you to ask yourself and ponder upon the question "What is the good to be done?" which, if you think about it, humanity has already been doing so for the past couple of millennia. Well, I guess maybe it took a break during the dark ages and only started again in the Renaissance where people learned to think for themselves - but I digress.
It's expressive. Human elements such as temptation, envy, regrets, prejudice, laws, freedom, family, love, and purpose were very much present. I've never really been the most inclined towards literature but there's just really something about how it was packaged and presented that harmoniously meshed with the way I absorb information which brings me to my next and last point:
It's beautiful. As a human with basic pattern recognition abilities, there's a lot of rhymes schemes present and get this, they're not only multisyllabic but they also make perfect sense. They're neatly woven and intertwined that it just makes you think that The Teleological Argument should be considered a law. There's also presence of a lot of subtle things and microsecond reactions that makes it absolutely astonishing and utterly hilarious. Lastly, the orchestra and the sound effects behind was nothing short of amazing. It's as if it can still tell the story without the lyrics given the music's melody, dynamics, and tone.
Speaking of raising a glass to freedom, let's take a break and truly do so with Clink Craft Cocktails PH's made-to-order Bottled Craft Cocktails. It's more than just your ordinary cocktail. Inspiration. Education. Expression. Beauty.
These are reasons you should get the musical in your figurative environment for you to consume. They're why I've been listening to the musical non-stop for the past 2 weeks and it doesn't look like I'm stopping anytime soon. I've been repeating it yet everytime I do it's like im listening to it again for the first time and I don't really say that often about something given the usual presence of diminishing marginal returns.
